Greenland is the world's largest island with 840,000 square miles (2,175,590 km2), although Australia also meets the definition of an island (a piece of land surrounded by water), it is actually large enough to be considered its own continent.

It is located between the Arctic and the North Atlantic Ocean. It includes the northwest of Canada and Iceland. So three quarters of the country lies within the Arctic Circle.

According to Greenland Location the Atlantic Ocean lies in the southwest of Greenland, Greenland Sea borders the east, the Arctic Ocean is to the north and the Baffin Bay is to the west. Total area of Greenland is 2,166,085 km. 1755,617 km is covered by Greenland ice sheet. Greenland posses one-twentieth of the world's ice and one-quarter of the earth's surface ice. The coastline lies 44,087 km.

Greenland is primarily consists of mostly flat terrain but gradually sloping icecap that covers all land except for a narrow, mountains, barren rocky coast. All settlements and towns are located along the ice-free coast. The population is mainly concentrated along the western coast.

Greenland is a self-governed Danish territory. It is also world's largest dependent territory. World's largest national park is situated in Greenland. It covers 972, 00 square km. It encompasses the northeastern coastline and interior sections of Greenland. It was designated an international biosphere reserve in 1977.

Politically and historically Greenland is closely tied to Europe though geographically and ethnically it is an Arctic island nation associated with the continent of North America. Greenland is world's largest non-continental island.
